Job Description: VACANCY NOTICE Title: NCD Prevention and Management Deadline for application: 08 August 2023 Contract type: Special Services Agreement Duty Station: Port Moresby, NCD Duration of contract: 1 year with the possibility of renewal Organization Unit: Regional O ice for the Western Pacific, based on performance and availability of funds. WHO Representative for Papua New Guinea Description of duties: In close collaboration with the National Department of Health and under the direct supervision of the WHO Team Lead (UHC, Health Systems and Healthier Populations) and overall guidance for the WHO Representative, the Technical Officer for non-communicable diseases will carry out specific duties as below: To coordinate and provide technical support to the NDOH based in the country office non-communicable diseases and within the overall regional framework To provide support within the NDOH for the adaption and implementation of the Papua New Guinea Package of Essential NCD Interventions (PEN) To provide support for the drafting and implementation of Papua New Guinea NCD strategic plan. Support NDOH and other national partners in developing, implementing, and evaluating national strategies and plans for national and subnational level NCD (non-communicable diseases) prevention and control. Coordinate with NDOH counterparts’ joint actions such as working groups, roundtables, and meetings to facilitate NCD prevention and control program implementation at national and subnational levels. Undertake jointly with NDHO counterparts regular monitoring of the implementation of NCD activities. Facilitate partner and stakeholder coordinate in NCD prevention and control. Facilitate smooth information flow of NCD activities between NDOH and WHO and other involved institutions through sharing of meetings and reports. Job Requirements: QUALITFICATIONS REQUIRED: EDUCATION Essential: University degree in medicine, public health, nursing, or a related area Desirable: Master’s degree in any of the above areas or post-graduate training in a relevant NCD speciality Experience. At least five years of professional experience within the area of NCDs. Relevant experience in public health and working with the national or subnational levels of the National Department of Health or any other relevant organization. TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE Essential: Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the prevention and control of NCDs in the Papua New Guinea. Demonstrated knowledge of the national health system. Excellent computer skills, including a standard package of office applications. Ability to identify and manage one’s own emotions, as well as helping others to do the same.
